Rachel Coosaia, a Michigan native, has forged a career as a cellist spanning over three decades. Her musical journey began at Western Michigan University, where she studied with Bruce Uchimura. Upon completing her performance degree in 1999, she relocated to Los Angeles California, furthering her studies under the esteemed guidance of Ronald Leonard.
For more than 20 years, Rachel has been a member of the St. Matthew's Chamber Orchestra. Alongside her orchestral commitments, Rachel has thrived as a versatile freelancer, and is a member of the Riverside Philharmonic, the Long Beach Ballet and
the McCallum Theatre Orchestra.
Rachel's musical abilities extend beyond classical realms, embracing diverse collaborations with acclaimed artists from various genres. From sharing the stage with
luminaries like John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, James Galway, Mark O’Connor, Julie Andrews and Sir Elton John, to lending her talent to recordings and performances alongside Stevie Wonder, Audra McDonald, Matteo Bocelli, Earth Wind and Fire, The
Alan Parsons Project, Quincy Jones and Tony Bennett, her portfolio reflects a remarkable breadth of experience and artistry.
In the realm of studio recording, Rachel's cello has lent its emotive voice to numerous film and television soundtracks. Her solo performances and appearances have graced popular shows like Glee, New Girl, and Fresh Off the Boat, as well as notable film productions including The Final Purge and Homecoming.
Beyond performing, Rachel has also contributed her expertise as a technical advisor for Fox Studios, ensuring
authenticity in musical portrayals on screen.
Complementing her performing career, Rachel is deeply committed to music education, particularly the Suzuki Method. Her journey as a Suzuki instructor began in 2009, undertaking training with esteemed mentors such as Pam Devenport, Jean Dexter, Rick Mooney, and Dr. Tanya Carey.
With 25 private students currently under her tutelage,
Rachel's passion for teaching extends beyond individual instruction, as she generously volunteers her time with non-profit organizations like the Harmony Project and the Young Musicians Foundation, advocating for accessible music education in underserved communities.
